Why are there two accumulators for the
2000-2007 Ford Focus?
You may have noticed two gpd listings for the accumulator on a Ford Focus and wondered, why? When the vehicle was released, the Ford Focus was originally fitted with the accumulator (gpd #1411664). This accumulator features a ⁵⁄₈ inch inlet hole size on the suction side, which transfers refrigerant to the compressor.
Over the course of the vehicle’s life, the accumulator and suction hose were redesigned. The new accumulator (gpd#1411867) now features a ¾ inch hole size.
Due to the age of the vehicle, the most common accumulator found on this vehicle is the second design (gpd #1411867). If there is a Ford Focus with the earlier design, the accumulator may not have been replaced yet. It is best practice to update the system to the latest accumulator (gpd #1411867) and suction hose.
