Using Oil and Flush in Hybrids
Are you servicing a compressor on a Honda or Toyota hybrid vehicle? If so, it is important to consider what type of oil that is being used. Using PAG oil, which is hygroscopic, can have serious consequences to the A/C system. There is a special type of oil that is supposed to be used on these vehicles. This oil is special electrically insulated to keep voltage from leaking to the compressor case through the oil.
It is also important to understand that even a small drop of normal PAG oil can significantly reduce the electrical insulation performance and cause the compressor to malfunction. If the wrong oil is placed into the A/C system and then circulated throughout the system, all the parts of the A/C system can malfunction such as: compressor, evaporator, condenser and accumulator/drier.
When servicing these vehicles, it is best practice to use only one manifold gauge set when charging the system to make sure no other oils enter the system.
