Camshaft and Crankshaft Position Sensor
The camshaft and crankshaft position monitor the position of the engine’s camshaft and crankshaft and communicate readings with the ECU to regulate ignition and fuel injection timing. The camshaft position sensor is generally located on the engine’s cylinder head and the crankshaft position sensor is generally located on the backside of the engine block, near the timing cover.
Vehicles may experience hard cranking, no start, engine shutdown, ignition misfires, stalling, and fail emissions test if the camshaft and/or crankshaft position sensors are not replaced. It is also important to note that the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors work together, thus a faulty camshaft sensor may affect the crankshaft position sensor.
Signs of a faulty Camshaft/Crankshaft Position Sensor:
