The 1999-2002 Saturn SW/SL/SC/LS/LW models listed above feature a compressor with an internal thermostatic control valve. When charging the system thru the low side, the thermostatic control valve will freeze open and will not allow the compressor to pump, which may lead the installer to believe that the compressor has failed.

To charge the system properly for these Saturn applications, refrigerant must be pumped in on the HIGH side using a charging machine with the engine off.
