Check the Blend Door Position Before
Installing a New Blend Door Actuator
One of the tell-tale signs of a malfunctioning blend door is an incorrect temperature inside the vehicle after changing the temperature or vent direction. There are some cases where the blend door motor will fail and leave the blend door in an open position. In the example used to depict this tech tip, the blend door actuator motor failed leaving the blend door in a barely noticeable open position. Without attentive inspection, the blend door appeared closed. Even this slight opening will allow unwanted hot/cold air to alter the desired temperature inside the vehicle. If the blend door actuator is replaced and the blend door is left open as described above, it may seem like the new replacement is not functioning properly.
If replacing a blend door actuator, check to make sure the blend door position is completely closed before installing the new blend door actuator. If the blend door is left open, even slightly, the temperature inside the vehicle will not match the A/C temperature selected.
