Serpentine belt service solution for 2002-2004 honda Cr-v 2.4L compressor: 6512653
Have you replaced A/C compressor 6512653 and found the serpentine belt won't go back on?

There are two possible causes:
1. The Automatic Belt Tensioner Needs to be Reset
During compressor replacement, the automatic belt tensioner may not have been moved back far enough to allow proper belt installation. To reposition the tensioner use a 14mm wrench on the tensioner pulley bolt to rotate the tensioner towards the front of the vehicle. The tensioner should move smoothly and feel spring loaded. With the tensioner retracted, the serpentine belt should easily slip into place.
Safety Note: Use caution when applying force to the tensioner. Ensure the wrench is securely positioned to prevent slipping and possible injury.

2. Automatic Belt Tensioner Has Seized
If excessive force is required or the tensioner will not move, the tensioner may be stuck in the fully extended position due to a failed internal spring or seized mechanism, which is a common issue on higher-mileage and late model vehicles. In this case, inspect and replace the automatic belt tensioner if it does not move freely.
The OE Reference Number (31170-PNA-023) can be used as a cross-reference when sourcing a replacement from a reputable aftermarket supplier.
Whenever replacing the A/C compressor on a 2002–2004 Honda CR-V, take a few moments to inspect the belt tensioner. The automatic belt tensioner is generally located under the power steering pump. A worn or seized tensioner can make belt installation difficult and may lead to belt noise, improper accessory operation, or premature belt failure.
