A Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) is designed to trap soot and ash in a ceramic honeycomb and burn it off during regeneration. When the DPF cannot reach proper regeneration temperature, soot accumulates—leading to restriction and increased exhaust backpressure. This backpressure has a direct impact on turbocharger performance and longevity. Not only can a severely restricted DPF affect emission, it places excessive stress on the turbocharger. Prolonged restriction can force soot back into the turbine housing and vanes, increasing the risk of turbo seizure or failure.
