understanding the p0299 turbocharger
under-boost fault code
The P0299 fault code means the turbocharger is not producing enough boost, also known as “under-boost”. On early model turbos, common causes include:
- Failing wastegate actuator
- Boost leaks from cracked hoses or a faulty intercooler
- Low or dirty oil or blocked oil feed lines
Dirty oil and restricted oil feed lines are the most common causes of turbo failure.
If a new turbo was just installed and a P0299 code appears, the usual culprit is old, contaminated oil or unclean oil feed/return lines. Carbon deposits from old oil can block oil flow and damage the new turbo.
Always replace oil and filter and inspect, flush, or replace feed/return lines when installing a new turbo.

Global Parts Distributors offers a complete line of 100% new, no core turbochargers as well as intercoolers and oil feed lines for high failure rate applications.
