Oil Charge for Chevrolet/GM Compressor, 6513078, with Rear A/C

When installing compressor, 6513078, on the applications listed below it is critical to identify if the vehicle has a second auxiliary, or “rear air” system and verify the system’s compressor oil and refrigerant charge specifications, located on sticker under the hood. Vehicles with rear air are equipped with several extra components that are powered by the primary compressor, such as:

• Rear evaporator
• Rear heater core
• Rear blower motor housing, including resistor/module HVAC control module and actuators
• Rear expansion valve or orifice tube
• Extended refrigerant lines

These auxiliary components significantly increase the system’s refrigerant and oil capacity needs. This is why manufacturers will specify additional oil be added to the compressor when servicing or replace the compressor in models with rear air. Failure to add the extra oil may result in insufficient lubrication that can damage the compressor and interrelated A/C components.
