Brake Wear Sensor Diagnosis

Electric brake wear sensors monitor brake pad wear, triggering the 'Check Brake Pads' warning light when brake pads near end of life. Brake wear sensors should be replaced when brake pads are replaced. 

Common Reasons for Brake Wear Sensor Failure:

• Normal wear and rear causes worn brake pads to trigger the brake wear sensor
• Damaged or disconnected brake wear sensor wiring

When the brake pad wear to a level where the brake wear sensor is triggered, a brake warning light will be illuminated on the dashboard. In some cases, there will be an audible wear indicator and noticeable decline in brake performance. 

​Diagnosing a Brake Wear Sensor

• Visually inspect brake pad thickness, including sensor wiring, on all wheels
• Use a scan tool to  confirm the presence of OBD-II code C004A: Brake Lining Wear Sensor
