gpd offers two blower motor resistor options for the 1990-1993 Mercedes-Benz (W124) 300, 400, and 500 series models listed below. Take note of cataloged model fitment and descriptions (with or without dust filter) for blower motor resistors 1712862 and 1712863.
- Blower motor resistor 1712862 features a dust filter and is suited for the Mercedes-Benz models listed below.
- Blower motor resistor 1712863 does not feature a dust filter and is suited for the models listed below.
TROUBLESHOOTING MERCEDES-BENZ W124 BLOWER MOTOR RESISTORS 1712862 AND 1718863
The resistor location in Mercedes-Benz W124 models listed above is prone to repeat failure. Due to its location, corrosion within the electrical connectors is a common problem and may impede proper current flow. Additionally, constrained routing often causes the wiring harness to become twisted and wrapped around itself. It is essential to inspect the wiring and check the fuse:
The resistor location in Mercedes-Benz W124 models listed above is prone to repeat failure. Due to its location, corrosion within the electrical connectors is a common problem and may impede proper current flow. Additionally, constrained routing often causes the wiring harness to become twisted and wrapped around itself. It is essential to inspect the wiring and check the fuse:
- Ensure the resistor wiring is untangled and there are no breaks or cuts in the electrical wiring as this will cause intermittent electrical signals.
- Check the fuse located on the left side of the engine bay, outside the engine compartment, near the break master cylinder #7 HVAC and #12 Blower Motor to make sure it is in working condition and has not blown while replacing the resistor.
