In the early 2000s, Ford utilized a variable displacement scroll style compressor on several applications to improve fuel economy and reduce engine drag. These compressors were designed with a control valve in the rear that regulated displacement. Unfortunately, as these compressors aged, the rear control valve was prone to getting stuck in the de-stroke position. This would reduce compressor output, resulting in poor cooling performance that mimicked a failed compressor. To resolve this common cause of premature failure, gpd has identified a simple service procedure that can restore normal compressor operation.
Required Tools:

- Plastic o-ring pick (gpd part no. 5811493 or equivalent)
