1995-2015 Ford Super Duty 5.4, 5.9, 6.7, 7.2 Gas & Diesel Accumulator
Not all accumulators are built the same. We recently did a comparison between our accumulator and competitors. We found some major differences that would ensure that if you were to use the competitor’s product, it could be back in your bay.
The first thing you'll notice is that the gpd accumulator comes with the original plastic cover (like shown in tech tip 118), while our competitors don’t. If the plastic cover breaks, you can only get it as a part at Ford. Just think about the cost of running a bay for an hour versus the price of the gpd accumulator.
The “J” tube inside the accumulator is crucial for transferring refrigerant from the bottom of the accumulator, making sure the compressor gets the oil it needs and that the system has enough refrigerant. On the gpd accumulator, the “J” tube matches the size and depth of the OE. The competitor’s “J” tube is thinner and shorter, meaning it does not reach the bottom of the accumulator. It may work for a while, but once it heats up, it will not be able to keep up.
